Welcome To The Science Blog.......

Before we start our reflections let's try a test post.
The question for this post is.........

1. What has been your favorite lab so far?

You will need to use your notes from science class to help you post your comment correctly.

My favorite lab was when we learned about the Earth & Space. I remember that in that lab we went outside and looked at the sun with cool glasses. Those same glasses made the sun look like a small red dot. We also put on some clear objects such as rings and hair clips. The objects changed colors when we steped into the sunlight.

    ReplyDelete
  22. My favorite lab was on November 16 when we looked at the sun with spacial glasses so our eyes would not hurt in pain. The sun you think is very big but when you put on these glasses they prove you wrong the sun is a lot smaller than you think.

My favorite lab so far was on October 14 when we were working on mechanical energy. We experimented by creating ramps for our miniature cars to go through. We got two cars and we examined their characteristics. Then, we made a prediction of which car would go faster and farther. And last we made the conclusion.
( I know you just asked for our favorite lab but I'm sorry if I wrote too much )

    Dear Mrs.Rollins,
In Science lab my favorite time with you was when you taught us all about Refraction and Reflection in the lab. We used lots of different tools to examine how does reflection and refraction work. I used flashlights and mirrors to create a bouncing light (reflection) and used a really cool tool called a periscope to see objects while I am hidden. We also saw a flipchart and she explained to us how reflection is used in our everyday lives. Mrs.Rollins put a straw in a glass of water and showed us how refraction works by making the straw bend in an unusual way. She also beamed a laser in front of a triangular mirror and it reflected which made an image on the ceiling that caused it look like three lasers beaming upward.I really loved the activity we did in science lab because it Rocked!!!

My favorite lab was when you gave us marshmellows. and every tim the sun changed a phase we would eat some of it.

  95. Hmmmm...so hard to decide...I'll have to go with the time where we looked up at the sun with special solar glasses and got to see it without the intense pain and momentary blindness or permanent blindness. For future reference, if we ever learn about coments and meteors in great detail, that would be my favorite by far because I have always been curios about the heavens. If any of you readers have never seen a meteor shower or a comet(even though the next comet is in the year 2061, 50 years from now) I recommend you type this in exactly for the times of the next meteor showers.TRUST ME, THESE THINGS ARE NOT SOMETHING YOU WANT TO MISS!!! I just recently watched the December 13th one in 2010. http://stardate.org/nightsky/meteors
P.S. Mrs. Rollins, you said there is no max on sentances or words. ;)

  96. Today in lab we learned about the earths crust< mantel and core. we used a apple to give us the image of what earth is like. i learned the the seed represents the core the skin is the crust and the apples part that we eat is the mantle. I also read about Pangaea and I think that it is amazing that our world could change over millions of years. I wish I could see it. Thank you Mrs. Rollins!

I liked all of the labs, but I would have to choose the lab on Mrs. Rollins's B-Month!!! We learned about solutions, and how a solution has to have a solute and a solvent. We learned more about solutions by using an unknown substance. Mrs. Rollins had to test it before we were able to drink it. It was really funny because she had to test it even though it was only grape juice!

For weathering in lab I noticed how ice, water, and soil are strong enough to break up minerals so easily and how the breaking down of minerals is called weathering. In erosion I had a lot of fun on the flipchart where then again water, wind, and ice carry those small particles and then deposits them into a new place. science lab was fun and it rocked!!!!

Today in lab we made a stream table to shw how weathering, erosion, and deposition in hands on Science. We first watched mrs.Rollins do it as she flattened the sand with a tool that looked like a piece from,"Scrabble."Once she flattened it she put a ruler on top and placed a cup that had a hole in the middle and pulled the tape t open up the hole so the water would drain out and then we poured water in it which flowed down easily and caused a Delta. I think this is the best lab ever!!!!!!!

Today in Science lab we took a grade on our stream table that we learned how to make last week by making a plateau and pouring it down to make it look like water eroding rocks and soon turned into a delta. But this time there was a twist in which we caused a flash flood.Once it broke out the sand spread out and turned into an Illuvial fan. Science was great as I got a 100% for my grade on setting up a stream table.

    ReplyDelete
  109. so in the first stream table so cool beacuse it was just cool beacause we got a 100 in the tabel so that was the cool thing the second stream table was awesome

Today in lab we learned about sediments in soil and how each type of soil varies depending on what plants adapt to it. We learned about how humus is important in all soil which forms when dead animals get broken down into soil by a selected group of animals known as decomposers who crush the animals into humus that purifies soil for plants to grow better and be healthier. The most fun part about science lab was when we got dig up outside with real shovels to examine the abilities and specialties of soil in which most carried worms, eggs, seeds, and little plants which were germinating underground from different specimen. Lab was awesome!!!!!!!

Today in science class we learned about limestone. obsidian and many more rocks. We tested rocks by putting them in a glass of water. And can you believe it? One rock actually floated. To test a rock to see if it is combined with mud, smell it and if it smells like mud its a combination rock.

  115. Abhiraj S.--Mrs.MelanconJanuary 27, 2011 at 5:24 PM

Today in science lab we started learning about fossils and how layers of sediment go over the fossil and create preservatives. We actually got to feel this in real life by making cookies from cookie dough and shaped it to make it lok like carvings with toothpicks and popsicle sticks to shape molds of our fossil. Mrs.Rollins baked it in four ovens and we got to eat it at the end of class after it baked for about ten to thirteen minutes and while in that time we got to play with fake fossils and dig into it like a paleontologist with brushes and wooden knives trying to discover more animals that have died long ago up to even more than five hundred billion years ago. Science lab was awesome and I feel like this is my favorite one so far for all this time!!!!!!!!!!!

My favorite lab so far was what we did today. We made a Electrical magnets. We did it by, putting a battery in a case or with your hands, put some copper wire on it, wrap it around a nail, hold the copper wire(or do it with your the case,) and put it in some paper clips(or put a nail on it) then you made a(n) Electrical magnet.

My favorite so far was when we did Matter on September 27, 2011. We played with magnets and we saw what we could do with them. Then we learned that if you put two north(or south poles) were put together they would repel(a.k.a. push away) each other. I decided to do a little experiment with the magnets. "These are magnets with holes in them right," I thought to myself."Lets see what I can do with these." So I followed what my mind thought. Step1: find your pencil Step2: put the magnets on the pencil you have (of course south-south or north -north) then they repel each other and the float above one another. Well at least at the end of part of the pencil.

My favorite lab so far is the one we did today, November 17, 2011. We went to different tables. There at every table was one station. The first one was looking through a clear prism that makes the light look like rainbows. The other one was making a penny disappear. The next one was trying to look through a mirror that makes words right side up & in the right way. That's as much I want to say! O.M.G. Mrs. Rollins, you rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then we went inside and watched 2 vidios about shadows. Once that was over all of my class and I made hand shadows of our own. There were dogs, frogs, deers, wird things, a tree, and many more! My favorite lab so far was the one we did on September 13, 2011. We went outside and when ever Mrs. Rollins said 'solid' we would all get in a bunch like something solid(like ice.) When she said 'liquid' we would take 10 steps back. But, when she said 'gas', we would take 14 steps back! I stepped backwards so much, that I bumped into the tree! That really hurt my head! That's all I have. BYE!

My favorite season is all of the seasons! Hi everyone I'm back! This is what I have....

    1. The difference between weathering, erosion, and deposition is that weathering takes a long period of time, deposition is something that was sitting somewhere and was moved from one place to another, and erosion is when something gets destroyed by ice, water, and wind.

    3. Deposition is when something is moved from one place to another.
    4. They are all destructive forces.
    5. Something gets deposited somewhere where it wasn't recently was.
