Lab - Layers of the Earth - 01-06-11

The Earth is made of Crust, Mantle, and Core.

How did the apple relate to the Earth's layers?

Scientist believe that all continents were once connected as one super continent.

This was called Pangaea.

What do you think about Pangaea?

the skin of the apple was the crust, the part you eat is the mantle and the seed was the core. I think that pangagea is really cool!!

  2. The apple related to the earths layers by the apples skin being the earths crust, the part you eat is the mantle, and the seed chamber is the core. Apples are like Mrs. Rollins....AWESOME!!!!!!! I think Pangaea is really interesting because earth just used to be one continent!!!

  3. The skin or the apple was the crust - the good part that you eat is the mantle - and last but not least the apple seed was the core. And thats the way the is like an apple.

I dont like pangea because, We would all have a argument about what flag and what main languge to speek and it might not be free it would just be one realy but I do believe it realy was there in one huge chunk of land.

The Earth is just like apples. The Earth has layers that are very similar to the apple. The skin on the apple is just like the crust. The middle of the apple is just like the mantle. The seed is just like the core. I think that Pangaea did really happened. I think that it is cool how all seven continents were all one continent before.

  6. 2. I think it is true because all the contnents fit together
    1. The apple's skin was like the crust. The fruit was the mantle. And the core was the core.

    Bye Mrs. Rollins

The apple relates to the Earth's layers because its skin is the crust, the fruit is the mantle and the core is the core.

I think Pangaea is a good theory, because since the Earth has plates something could have hit the Earth really hard and broke the one continent into seven pieces. So we have plates and seven different continents.

    ReplyDelete
  8. The Earth had a crust and the apple's skin was like the Earth's crust. The inside which you eat is the mantle. Finally, the apple core is like the Earth's core. I think pangaea is really cool since all the plates that are now separated used to be like a giant jigsaw puzzle.

I think Pangaea is fat and kind of looks like Europe of Great Britain . If you think about it temperature wise its a bit like Europe to.

  10. The apple had a crust {the skin} a Mantle { the yellow and juicey} and a core {the seeds}. I believe in Pangaea because it does actully look like everything did once be one land.

    ReplyDelete
  11. 1. The apples's skinis like the crust because they both protect the inside. The part you eat is like the mantle because they are the largest sections in both the apple and the earth. The core of the apple and the earth are similar because they are both in the middle.

    2. I think pangaea is cool because when you look at a map all the continents look like they fit together.

    1. The apple had the same features of the Earth.

    2. I think Pangaea was probably a nice place if humans could live there because you can just drive from South America to Africa

1.The apple had lots of things in common with the earth. The apple had a "crust" (peel) which was like the earth's crust. The part you eat in the apple is the mantle. And lastly the seed in the middle is like the core.
2.My thoughts about Pangaea are that the continents seem to look like they fit together and that I already know that the plates of earth move now, so why not back then?

  14. Michael H-Rollins/BeanJanuary 6, 2011 at 3:35 PM

The apple was like the earth becuase the skin was the crust and mantal is the fruit also the seed is the coure.

Pangaea are big plates that make up the earth. And when thay move it makes a earthquack

  15. I don't believe in Panagea how can A humungus island like asia just drift. Even though the process takes a long I don't think it's possible

    ReplyDelete
  16. The apple related to Earth because they both have the same basic parts core, mantle or fruit, and crust or skin. They both are spheres. Pangaea was one of the few super continents. Pangaea existed during the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras 250 million years ago. Pangaea was surrounded by the Panthalassa Ocean.

    ReplyDelete
  17. the apple has a crust or skin, it had inner core as a seed. I think Pangaea is a cool thing. When I searched Pangaea up it said that Europe and Asia would come together and be called Eurasia.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The skin of the apple was the crust, the fruit was the mantle and the inside was the core. I think that if the world still looked like Pangaea history would have happened differently.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think that pangaea was true because why else would all the continents fit together perfectly? I think an apple is like the earth because it has a crust (skin) a mantle (fruit) and core (the core) and it also has a axis (the stem)
    it is also a sphere.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Nick said, Pangaea is a strong theory but if it where a large clump of land how would earth get its water for the plants and the earth?

The skin of the apple is like the earths crust. The inner part of the apple mantle. The center part where the seeds are is like the earths core

    ReplyDelete
  21. The apple related to the earth's layers in the way that the skin was the crust the middle part was the inner and outer mantle and where the seeds were was the inner and outer core.

I think Pangaea is very interesting and intriguing and would love to know more about it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think that they related by both having crusts,mantles,outer-cores,and inner-cores.

  23. Justin T. - Rollins/BeanJanuary 6, 2011 at 4:02 PM

The apple relates to the Earth's layers because it has the crust which is actually the "skin" of the apple. It has the mantle which is actually the yellowish inner liquid filled part. It has also the cores which is where the seeds are in. I think that Pangaea is really cool and I think it would be better to have all the continents combined so almost every area would have about the same climate and it would take less time to travel.

    ReplyDelete
  24. To me the apple related very well in 3 main different ways. Here are some examples.....
    - Well to start it off the Earth and the apple both have a thin layer of skin called the crust.
    - Another great way they relate is they both have that mush called the mantle.
    - The last good relation is that they both have a core.

To me Pangea is actually very interesting to me to think about that maybe very very long ago the 12 major continents were larger and conected. If you look at the globe today it looks as if each continent could be pushed together like a puzzel.

    ReplyDelete
  25. because its round and they both have a core

  27. I think that the apple related to the earth's layers was the skin of the apple was the crust. then there was the apple's real flover and that would be the mantle. Then the outer core can be when you almost hit the seed part.then the inner core is were you have gotten to the seed part.I think that Pangaea is true because all of the continents look like puzzle pieces that would fit together.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The apple was like the earth because the outside of the apple is like the crust and the middle juice is like the mantle and the seeds are the core.I think pangaea is a cool name.I wonder what life whould be like if pangaea did not break apart.

    ReplyDelete
  29. 1. the apple was related to the earth because it has a Mantle, Crust, Inner and outer cores. 2. I never heard of a Pangaea until you told me on tuesday. If the Pangaea reformed there would be only one continent with hundreds of countries.

The apple related to the Earth's layers because the skin on the apple was the crust, right after that was the mantle, the fruit was the outer core, and the seed was the inner core.

I think that it was all spread out to begin with. I don't think the land can move that far. It's just like they thought the world was flat, but it's not.

    ReplyDelete
  31. well......I think that Pangaea sounds realy cool especialy because i have relatives in Cape Town,South Africa and they would be much closer to us if it was stil the same as that right now.A apple's skin is like the crust of earth, the "fruit" part of it is like the mantle, and the seedy part is the core of earth.

    Dear Mrs. Rollins yes the earth is made of a crust mantle and core. The apple related to the layers of the earth since they both have a crust {the apples skin} they both have a mantel { the inside of an apple] and the both have a core {the place where the apple stores it's seeds.}
I do belive in pangea because a few months ago my dad showed how all the continents can connect I think the person that discoverd it is really brainy.

  33. theyr was crust mantle and the core

  34. The Apple related to the the earth because the crust is like the outside if the Apple and its inside is like the Mantle and Core.I though the Pangaea was cool and it really showed it alot.

    1. An apple is like a Earth because it has layers and a seed, which prefers as a core.

    2. I want to live in a place like Pangaea!!! You could get to places faster and get to your friends and family (who live far away) by car!!!

  36. HOW DID THE APPLE RELATE TO THE EARTH`S LAYERS?

The skin of the apple was like the crust, the juicy part of the apple was like the mantel, and the seeds were like the core.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT PANGAEA?

I think that all the continents were once altogether to make Pangaea. So you could say that I do belive in Pangaea.

The apple and the earth both have crusts and they have inner and outer core in the middle of them. They are also round like a ball that rolls. The earth and the apple both can spin for 24 hours when you spin it.

Today at lab we learned about the Earth's layers. we first learned how land forms change like Pangea turned into 2 continents, and than 7 continents.we learned about the different layers of the Earth.we cut the apple to make a exzmple of the Earth's layers. we had a great day at lab.

    ReplyDelete
  43. The apples skin is like Earths crust. When you dig deeper into an apple, you get the mantel, outer core, and the inner core. I think Pangaea is cool. I kinda wish Pangaea was right now. Then there would only one continent.

  44. (1)The apple relatid to the earth because they both have layers the crust(skin) the mantle(fruit) and the core(seed)(2)I think that pangaea was real and that it was separated by a huge tsunami.

The apple was like the earth because the rough skin was like the crust, the soft juicy part is like the mantle, and last the hard seed is like the core.

I agree with the scientists. it would explain the effect of earthquakes.

Today we learned about the inner and outer layers of the Earth. The layers were the crust the mantle and the core. Also we learned about Pangaea which is a super continent that scientist believe that it grew apart in the last billion years to make new smaller continents that we live on today.

1.The apple is like the earth because the apple has a seed and diffrent layers, just like a earth has a core, mantle, and crust.

2.I would not like Pangaea because if we live in the inside part of the continent, we would have to travel for days to see the sea.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The apple related to the Earth's layers because the different part of an apple represented a different kind of layer.
    Ex: the skin - crust
    the jucy part - mantle
the center where the seeds are - core

Next the Pangea. I think Pangea did exist. But my quetiion is, how does scientists know?

    ReplyDelete
  52. In lab today we used an apple to represent the earth and its layers. The skin represented the crust, the fruit flesh represented the mantle, and the apple core represented the earths core.
I think it is interesting that all the different continents were once one big continent (pangaea), and now, over millions of years, Pangaea has spread out.

An apple relates to the Earths layers by having the Crust , mantle, outer core, and the inner crust. I think pangage is really cool because over the years the earth as changed. All the continets fit together. The Earth is way different now then million years ago. Pangaea is very intersting.

    ReplyDelete
  63. The apple realated because the skin was like the crust, the inner part was like the mantle, and the center was like the core (apples have cores). I think that the Pangaea theor was very creative and made sense in a lot of ways. However, i think that if the Earth was still like that, history might be different (and America would be an odd shape). I also think of what they would call the land (maybe pangaea!).

    ReplyDelete
  64. An apple is related to the earth because they both have a Crust, Mantle, and Core.
I think that Pangaea is very cool because it had the power to separate the super continent. I think that pangaea is the greatest type of weatering process because it separated all 7 continents from one giant one super continent. I love LAB !!!

  65. To me the earth's layers are related to an apples skin layers because
    . they both have a crust(skin)
. both have mantles(edible part of an apple)
. 2 cores outer and inner(around the seedsis the outer and the inner is the seeds)
You can compare layers of the earth with many different everyday objects like an apple, which is what Ms. Rollins has taught me.
Pangaea is a FASTENATING thing to me. It is incredible that somthing that big could come apart. Pangaea is amazing!!!

An apple relates to the earth because the skin is the crust, the inner part is the mantle, and the center was the core. I think Pangaea is awesome and I want to learn more about it. The apple has a crust(skin), an inner core(where the seeds are), it's round, it has an axis(stem)(sort of), they both have 5 letters in it, and they both begin with a vowel. I think that it is interesting that the world was all one continent. Since they are spreading out, they will eventually meet on the other side. :) = Lab!!!

  68. The skin of an apple represents the crust. The juicy part is the mantle. Finally, the core represents the core. 72. Pangaea is a supercontinent from a long time ago. I think Pangaea is a great theory because there are 7 different plates and they must have been together at one time. the apple was similar to Earth, because the both have core, mantle and crust.

The Apples skin was like the crust and how it is thin. The Mantel is the part you eat its inside the skin or crust. The core is the seeds in the apple

    Panaega:
I think that this is really cool . It shows you that they thought that all the Continents were all one thing

    ReplyDelete
  84. The apple has the same shape, the skin is close to the crust and the core is where you eat and the seed is close to the inner core.

Panaega is a super continent, I think there the water would be denser.

  85. The apple has the same shape of the earth, the skin and the crust is the same, and the thing you eat is like the outer core and the seed is the inner core.

The crust, mantle and core relate to an apple because the apple has a crust (which is the outer part) a mantle (the part were you eat) and the core (which could be the center of the apple or the seeds).

    ReplyDelete
  90. The skin is the crust and the apple relates because it has the samething just as the earth. I think the pangea is really cool because I think it would be easyer for people to travel

    ReplyDelete
  91. The apple relates to the Earth because it also has layers. Like the earth, it's skin relates to the earth's crust. I think Pangea would be a very interesting subject to study. I Think that scientists were very smart to find out that the earth was once one giant "super-continent".

    ReplyDelete
  92. The apple could relate to it in one way by the outside (red part) being the top layer and as you go deeper you will find the seeds which could be the core to the earth. What I think of Pangea is that I think scientists must be super smart into knowing that evrything was once one super continent. Their technology these days are outstanding.

    ReplyDelete
  93. 1.There is a crust is the out side of the earth and apple.
2.The earth and apple have a mantle under the crust but above the core.
