Lab - Soil - 01-20-11

Soil is a very important natural resource. It is made of a mixture of nonliving and once living things.

So, tell me some nonliving things as well as some living things that could be in the soil.

Soil can be classified on their texture which affects a soil's ability to hold water and support plant growth. Which soil do you think holds water the best? Why?

Date: January 20, 2011

Obj: Earth Science

Activity: Describing Soil

Notes: Study Guide – page 57
· Clay – holds water best
· Sand – course texture drains water fast.
· Silt – has a fine texture can hold water & air
· Loam – mixture of silt, sand & clay
· Humus – decaying matter from plants, animal wastes that break down into the soil.
· Soil – is a very important natural resource mixture of once living and non living things.

Weathering - Erosion - Deposition - 01-11-10

Weathering - rain falls on a cliff and breaks away the rock into the river.

Erosion - the river carries the broken pieces of rock to another location.

Deposition - the dirt, broken pieces of rock, is deposited in one place and a new landform is being constructed.

Give me an example of weathering, erosion, and deposition..........

Welcome To The Science Blog.......

Before we start our reflections let's try a test post.
The question for this post is.........

1. What has been your favorite lab so far?

You will need to use your notes from science class to help you post your comment correctly.
I will be checking off to see who posted a comment correctly.

Good luck and have fun!!
